Electrical WiringThis page discusses the following delivery systems:Ground fault interrupter (GFI) Circuit breakersA panel of circuit breaker switches can be found at the exterior of your home. This panel is pointed out to you during your walk-through inspection. If you overload a circuit by plugging in too many appliances (or too powerful appliances) at the same time, the circuit breaker switch will automatically kick to the ‘off' position. To reset a circuit breaker switch, simply move the switch to the extreme ‘off' position, then push it all the way to the ‘on' position. OutletsA wall switch, with the exception of rooms that have a ceiling light, in which case there will not be a switch operated outlet, operates one-half of one outlet in some rooms. If an outlet does not have power, check the switch that controls the outlet to see that it is in the ‘on' position. If appliances, such as your garbage disposal or dishwasher, do not operate, check to see that they are plugged in. Ground fault interrupter (GFI)Exterior weatherproof outlets and one interior outlet in each bathroom are equipped with a GFI breaker to help protect you against electrical shock created by the use of faulty equipment such as hand held appliances and electrical tools. The GFI breaker is designed to turn off the circuit if it senses any possibility of a short. If you encounter a dead outlet on the GFI circuit, disconnect the appliance from the outlet and push the reset button on a GFI outlet so equipped (bathroom outlets)The circuit should then work. If one of your appliances continues to trip the GFI, the appliance is probable hazardous and should be repaired or replaced. Never allow anyone other than a licensed electrician to repair or alter the wiring in your home. Electricity is dangerous if not properly installed and used. Note that the GFI outlet located in the garage is not intended for and does not accommodate a refrigerator or freezer. Electrical fixturesLighting fixturesThe manufacturer warrants lighting fixtures and any questions regarding the fixture can be directed to the lighting supplier. If a fixture fails to operate, check the light bulb to be sure they have not burned out, are not loose in the socket, and are of the recommended wattage for the fixture. Your light fixtures are installed with bulbs of the recommended wattage. Replacement bulbs should be of the same or lesser wattage only. Luminous lightingThe translucent panels used in your ceiling lights are made of high impact plastic. When cleaning is required, remove the panels by pushing them slightly above the grid, then tilt and lower. The panels can be washed in a solution of mild dish washing liquid and water. |
